Waco Jesus
“Filth”
Morbid Records 2003

Waco Jesus needs no introduction. The debut CD of the band from Illinois was one of the favorite albums for many fans of extreme death metal and they haven’t forgotten Waco Jesus although “The Destruction of Commercial Sun” was released four years ago. The new album was worth the long wait. It is much better material: very well recorded, very well executed and very well written. Waco Jesus plays pretty simple music. The tracks are short and very fast. The band doesn’t try to diversify them using female vocals, keyboards, long intros and other similar and trendy additions. This is pure death/grind classified by the band itself as shit rock. That formula is very good. The fans of such style won’t find too many albums that could compete with “Filth” taking into consideration the intensity and speed. To some extent, Waco Jesus music reminds me of older Napalm Death from “Mentally Murdered”, “Harmony Corruption” and “Utopia Banished”, mainly because of these two mentioned features. “Filth” is a
great proposal also for fans of contemporary fast US death metal. And what is
very important, Waco Jesus has own style. Therefore they are one of the leaders
of Illinois death metal scene and that is probably one of the reasons why they
are signed to Morbid Records. Good choice of the record label and a must for
death metal fans.
